I’ll get to what to mail soon but for now it’s crucial to note, the follow up phone calls must be conducted within 4 days of mail receipt so you can link your call purpose with the message inside the recent mailings.

Your low volume, highly personalized direct mail program will make your target prospects thirsty to hear more and to want to speak to you. It forever eliminates the cold calling part of sales prospecting because it warms up what would have been a cold call to a complete stranger. My 32 years as a direct mail marketing consultant and mail processor prove my point. Plain and simple: it works!
In 2006, I experienced a direct mail awakening when I conducted a test mailing which achieved an 83% response. Of 400 business professionals who received our test mailing, 332 spoke to my telemarketers when we called shortly after completing this mailing. An 83% response is a heart-stopper in the Direct Mail Marketing Industry which raves about 2 % response rates.

My First and Last Taste of Cold Calls
My sales career began in 1967 with NCR. I was assigned the Miami Beach sales territory which is mostly hotels, motels and vendors servicing the Hospitality Industry.
I sold and installed accounting machines which were the forerunners of computers. These electronic machines posted general ledger and hospitality-specific accounting applications.
On my first day after returning from sales training in Dayton, Ohio, my sales manager told me to take my new business cards, brochures and to begin cold calling on South Beach in the hot Florida sun. I'll never forget his parting motivational words: Go get'em, tiger!
After 8 months and 163 city blocks, I had 2 sales, 3 prospects, worn shoe leather, and a cynical attitude. I was getting nowhere fast and going broke getting there! I knew there had to be a better way to get new customers other than the ordeal I had just barely survived - there just had to be!
Out of my pain and pride, I began developing a getting new customer’s formula. My original prospecting formula, as primitive as it was, quickly reversed my failing NCR sales career. Just 5 years later, I was recruited and hired by NCR's Number 1 Hospitality Systems competitor to become their North American Sales Manager.
